A little over three years ago, we started SD Mayer & Associates with seven employees and a handful of clients. At our first staff meeting, we agreed that “We Care” would be the words that would inspire us to grow and to succeed. We would care about each other, our clients, our community and our company.
Now, 1111 days later, the firm has 33 employees, six lines of business and more than 475 clients. As I look back on the last three years, I am grateful to those clients who took an early risk and joined us in our start-up mode; I am grateful to those employees who took a risk and jumped on the wagon without knowing which direction we were headed towards; and I am grateful to the many business acquaintances and friends who referred their contacts to us and who have since become clients.
It has been a wild ride and a lot of hard work by a very dedicated group of people. I would be lying if I said it was easy, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared to death. Starting a new company at almost 60 is nothing I planned or desired to do, but as I write this, I believe that it was a great move.
I find myself surrounded by engaged and hard-working employees who care deeply. We have become not only a family of co-workers, but more importantly, a tight group of friends.
Our clients are great and we enjoy serving them. Nothing feels better than a client calling with a problem and not only asking you to solve it, but knowing you and your team are the best people to solve it. Whether it is an audit or a tax return, a wealth management opportunity or a retirement solution, an outsource assignment or a complicated consulting assignment – I would stack the team from SDM up against anyone in the industry and be confident that we would exceed expectations.
Sure, we have made a few mistakes and not everything has been perfect, but looking back over the last 1111 days and seeing what our team has accomplished, it only makes me wonder what the next 1111 days will look like.
Thank you for your friendship, trust, and confidence,
